The ancient beauty treatment of facial acupuncture has been increasing in popularity at the moment, and no wonder! It is one of the go-to facial beauty treatments for celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.

So what is all the fuss about?

You can think of facial acupuncture as the no-needle version of botox due to its face-lifting abilities. Facial acupuncture is particularly favoured by those who want to blur wrinkles in a slower, natural way.

It is important to remember that acupuncture is a natural treatment. It won't act as quickly as botox. It's a slower process that will leave you with fantastic results in time.

How does it work?

Facial acupuncture follows the same structure of typical acupuncture that dates back to ancient China. Fine needles are inserted into the face at special acupuncture points, chosen to target problem areas in the face, and the body, which creates "mini traumas" that promotes the production of plumping and restorative collagen.

Your acupuncturist will scan the body for energy, to find balances and imbalances to be corrected. Some common problems can include heat in the body, frustration and anger affecting the liver, which will then show on the face. As part of your treatment, your acupuncturist will do an intake of the whole body to see what physically, and emotionally is occurring, for a specialised approach.

Empress Dowager Cixi of China, the first female empress of China, loved facial acupuncture. She incorporated it into her beauty routine as well as jade stones and herbs. We have also included these elements into our treatment to soothe the skin and bring chi to the face (an energy force that gives us vitality).

Typically, the treatment may take up to an hour and a half. And don't worry, the pain is very minimal due to the fine needles used. Although, it can cause some slight bruising as the needle is being inserted into the skin.

How often?

To get optimum results, we recommend getting the treatment done every four to six weeks. So could it be time to give facial acupuncture a go? Take a look at our price list here or enquire here.
